Growing numbers of consumers are signing up to schemes such as MasterCard SecureCode, which makes it harder for fraudsters to use their cards over the internet, while banks are also increasingly using fraud detection tools.

Losses in all areas of card fraud fell during the six months, apart from fraud involving cards that were lost in the mail, which rose by 9 per cent to £3.8 million. The research was unable to explain this increase.

Removing Credit Inquiries

It is worth the effort and time to remove unauthorized inquiries from your credit report. This takes three to six months to complete, but consider the time as an investment in your future.

Order Your Credit Reports

Order your individual credit report from the three separate credit-reporting agencies. Do not order the consolidated report; the consolidated report could miss important information. Examine the inquiries section of your credit report. Determine whether the inquiry is a “hard” pull or a “soft” pull. Hard pulls go on your report when you apply for a loan or credit. Hard pulls do affect your credit score. Soft pulls, or inquiries placed on your report when you pull your own credit or when an existing creditor pulls your credit to evaluate your current credit status, do not to have an adverse affect on your credit.

Determine Which Inquiries You Want Removed

Look for the address of the companies who place the inquiry on your credit report.

Experian, one of the credit reporting bureaus, said that some cities are experiencing a problem in terms of the growing credit card debt that each resident have. Residents of these major cities own credit cards more than the average residents of other states in the US.

New Yorkers top the list. They are known to have the highest number of credit cards that a residents has. The average ownership is 3.7 cards for each person. Knowing this fact, the debt that each New Yorker own is about five thousand seven hundred dollars more compared with the average. But even though the result is strikingly unusual, the study shows that the residents do not realistically use their own credit cards more.

The other states have debts ranging from six thousand seven hundred dollars for Atlanta and six thousand five hundred for Seattle. The next state which has the most number of credit cards per resident is Pittsburg.

Awkwardly, the free payment option varies from one retailer to another and so there is no substitute for reading the terms and conditions carefully before making a substantial purchase with plastic.

There is no legal requirement for retailers or anyone else to offer a free way to pay with plastic, according to the UK Cards Association, although other countries – including France, Italy and Sweden – ban credit card surcharges altogether.

Britain’s new financial watchdog, which is set to replace the Financial Services Authority next year, should get its teeth into inflated processing fees and force them back into line with the real cost of providing credit.

There are millions of people with balances on their credit cards.  It seems like once we rack up credit card debt we continue to do so, and continue to keep paying the minimum payments.  Doing both of those can hurt you real bad in the end.  A lot of people find themselves paying hundreds, if not thousands extra just because they weren’t disciplined with paying off their credit cards.

If you are looking for help with your credit card balances, here are 4 helpful tips that can get you to pay them off sooner than you may think.

  1. The first thing you want to do is create a budgetfor each month.  Before the month even begins, figure out how much you’re going to make.  Then, figure out how much will go to bills, how much you will save for spending cash, and how much you will store away for your savings.  When we can figure out these numbers ahead of time, we usually are more disciplined with where our money goes.
  2. To finish certain tasks in life, we need to have discipline.  Whether you want to make money, lose weight, or you want to pay off your credit cards, you can’t do it without discipline.  To get this discipline, think about why you want to pay off your credit cards and how it can help you down the road.
  3. Doing something as simple as staying in one night and not going out with your friends can save you a few bucks which in turn can be put towards your credit card balances.  Skip out on leisure and entertainment once and a while so you can save this money!
  4. If you have multiple cards with multiple balances, I highly recommend that you pay the ones off with the highest interest rate first.  Pay the minimum for low interest rates, and as much as you can for the highest!

Paying off your credit card balances can take time.  Unless we get a huge lump sum of money thrown at us it won’t be done overnight.  So, have patience, discipline and motivation to finally pay these off for good!
